Join me as I embark on a year of solo travel!

Here, I will advocate an understanding approach to sustainable travel and discuss the broader socio-political issues surrounding travel.

Some of my posts will be more personal and will revolve around my journey as a solo traveller. From tips, rants, and most likely, some embarrassing moments.

If you’re interested in learning more about the socio-political and ethical issues surrounding travel, combined with the musings of a slightly hysterical 22-year-old, then please follow my blog so you don’t miss any posts.

Finally, if you love travel pictures, sunsets, and very short vlogs, then you might enjoy following me on Instagram and TikTok. If you prefer longer rants with more insight, you might enjoy my YouTube and Spotify!

Welcome to my Sustainable Travel Blog!

Hello, and welcome to my Travel Blog. Here, I will discuss all things related to Female Solo Travel, discuss Sustainable travel, and explore social and political issues surrounding travel.  Therefore, expect a mix of personal rants and posts that are guided toward Sustainable Travel and ethical challenges. The aim of this post is to tell you why I created this blog, provide more detail of what content to expect, and say hello!

Why I started this blog: Sustainable Travel

Instead of beginning by telling you my name, age, and shoe size, I will talk about why I have started this blog. The main reason is, of course, to share my travel experiences. However, to delve deeper, I also want to raise awareness of the ethical issues surrounding travel, from Sustainable Travel to Voluntourism, and the challenges that communities face abroad. These are all matters that we should be aware of. To achieve this, I wish to continue learning about ethical issues surrounding travel, both during my own time and when I am experiencing a place.

I have some prior understanding in this area, as reflected in my degree in Politics, Philosophy, and Economics. I have always taken an interest in affairs, whether it be on a national or international level. However, I certainly do not claim to be an expert. Therefore, I will always reference sources that I have used to support my posts. And if there aren’t any, then it is just my own reflections. I also encourage anyone to share their own views and/or experiences in the comments. We can all learn from one another!

Why I started this blog: To empower young women!

Another reason is that I want to encourage others to travel. Of course, I am in a very privileged position to be able to ‘take a year out’ to travel. Yet, I understand that societal expectations, safety concerns, and general feelings of fear can also act as barriers to prevent people from travelling. However, if you are in a position to travel and want to do so, then you should. Travel should be inclusive. As a young woman, I feel well-placed to encourage other young women to travel.

Therefore, I will be sharing general tips and personal thoughts on travelling, sometimes applicable to everyone and sometimes tailored to female travellers. Whether it’s sooner or later down the line when I am more experienced.

Why I started this blog: To get back into blogging!

One last thing, I used to actually have a blog. I began writing on it mainly during covid times when I focused on social and cultural issues. Okay, if I’m honest, I often delve into trends on TikTok and discuss their underlying social and political relevance. What? Not to brag, but I ended up with over 1200 subscribers (who knows how). The contrast, though, will be stark. Rather than being under lockdown, with just A levels, the blog, and my plants to focus on, I will be travelling to so many places! It’s crazy. Sadly, the blog died down a while ago because life simply got in the way. Yet, I know that I will be travelling. But I am definitely going to ensure that I stick to content creation.

About me

So hi! My name’s Victoria; I’m 22 years old, and I’m from Dorset. Although I have been living in Swansea for the last four years. For the first three years, I was studying at Swansea University. Then, I worked in a call centre for around nine months before deciding that travelling would be more interesting. Seriously, if anyone reading this has ever worked in that kind of setting or in anything relating to sales, customer service, or hospitality, then tell me about it!

Aside from that jazz, I love music, being outdoors, and exploring new places (no surprises there, then). Fun fact, I used to play the guitar when I was a teenager. I also enjoy reading, anything relating to arts and crafts, socialising, and shopping. Except for the fact that I don’t read anywhere near often enough, I can’t remember when I last ‘created’ anything, and I am not always particularly sociable. Is anyone else just bad at their hobbies? Genuinely, I feel the only one of those I’m good at is shopping because I always end up spending too much money!

Me near my hometown.
If you look close enough, you can see quite a few cows in the background!

My other platforms

Aside from this blog, you can also find me on TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube. You can find links to all of these platforms on my main page. On TikTok and Instagram, expect a combination of tips, insights, and, very soon, pretty pictures! On YouTube, a lot of the content will be similar to this, but in video format. Therefore, expect a combination of video essays, and videos of me chatting!

So, what’s next?

I still have about two weeks until I leave the UK! Within this time frame, I will be stressing the heck out. I need to move my stuff out of my current place, and I need to finish sorting everything out relating to packing, buying everything I need, and getting the rest of my bloody jabs. But moving a few things out and getting stabbed is not going to take up all my free time! Therefore, I will also be working hard on creating content, which I can schedule and share over the next few weeks! The next post will just be about where I will be going and what I am going to be doing. But I am already planning other posts, including one about overcoming self-doubt, one about voluntourism, and one about over-tourism in Bali.

Finally, thank you for reading. I am incredibly excited to share this journey with you. If you have any experience of solo Travel, insight into sustainable travel, or even if there’s anything on here that resonates with you, then please let me know in the comments. I am really excited to get back into blogging, and I cannot wait to reconnect with the blogging community!
